Corrie fans find flaw in Craig's plan to solve mystery of 'charity shop' crutch

Corrie fans have identified a huge problem with Craig Tinker’s plans to find the owner of a mystery wooden crutch.

They've pointed out that checking it for fingerprints will potentially only reveal his own grubby mitts have been all over it.

It's the latest twist in a hit and run storyline that has been simmering on the ITV soap since the start of the year, with the Weatherfield copper unaware that the old fashioned walking aid is connected to a crime committed by his partner and her pal.

The crutch belonged to an old man, Ted, who Faye Windass accidentally ran over when she was out with Emma Brooker.

Trying to hide their tracks, the girls took the elderly stranger home and made sure he was safe.

However, when they popped back a few days later to check on him, they found he had died.

They panicked and fled the scene - but they failed to cover their tracks.

Firstly, Emma signed for a package while at his flat - which police know took place after the estimated time of death. As she dealt with the delivery the old guy sat feet away, dead in his chair.

And furthermore, after scraping him off the tarmac and taking him home, Emma left his crutch in her car without realising.

She only realised she still had it when Craig ended up using it when he hurt his ankle.

The trio are living together after Faye and Craig moved in with Emma above the salon.

However, the girls have fallen out over Ted's death, after they knocked the old man over when Emma was teaching Faye to drive and he subsequently passed away.

Tensions between them have heightened as Craig is investigating the case - and they fear their involvement will soon be revealed.

Fans think that Craig's plans to check the crutch for prints are destined to fail (ITV)

With his injured foot, Craig has been holed up incapacitated in his flat trying to work out who owns the random piece of medical kit, and shared his plans to get some of his colleagues down the station to check it for fingerprints.

And here is where fans have identified a massive flaw.

While Emma and Faye are worried he'll find out they were at old man's flat and think they killed him, the reality is that his fingerprints will also be on it, and his constant rubbling and handling of the stick means that the will have ruined any other incriminating prints.

It is not yet known whether Faye and Emma will be found out over what happened but Corrie boss Iain MacLeod teased a "cataclysmic event" for the Corrie duo this New Year.

"So in terms of starting the new year as we mean to go on, things couldn't get off to a worst start as they do for Faye and Emma.

"They are out drowning their sorrows and then on the way back to Weatherfield the following day, there is a terrible, cataclysmic, life-changing event, that’s not their fault but it’s a dilemma of secrecy and cover ups."
