Coronation Street's Ryan Connor will be "changed forever" after the horrific acid attack, that aired on Monday evening.
Actor Ryan Prescott said that Ryan will be determined not to let the attack define him, but he had a "long road ahead" in terms of his recovery.
The character was left injured during Monday's episode when evil Justin Rutherford threw acid at him, while he was aiming for Daisy Midgeley.
Justin set out to attack Daisy on her wedding day, cruelly telling her "no one would want her after this" with his plan to throw sulphuric acid in her face.
As Ryan stepped in front of Daisy to protect her he was hit with the acid, and left burned across his face and body.
In the fallout, Ryan will be left struggling to come to terms with the attack as he tries to deny his new reality.
Actor Ryan told The Mirror and other press that he will slowly realise the gravity of what has happened to him, with his life "changed forever".
He explained: "He's started see life will never be the same again, in which he's kinda of trying to reach out and clutch on to whatever he can within his life that will allow him to deny this reality. One of them being Alya, this new love interest Crystal.
"As he sees these things slipping away he tries to reach out and grab a hold of them in desperation, but I think he knows.
"As soon as something like this happens there are stages of acceptance and denial, but slowly bit by bit he starts to understand the gravity of his wounds and what has happened."
On what's ahead for Ryan, he went on: "It's going to change his life forever because it changes the way he interacts with the world.
"The difficulty in the parameters of soap is to show some reality in the longevity of what it means to be an acid attack survivor.
"In this case because the recovery period is so long if not life long. Despite the massive shift the incident causes, he is determined not to let the experience define who he is, and wants to find his way back to that infectious spirit he once had, but it's a long road."
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
