Coronavirus infection rates remain below national average across Greater Manchester region

Coronavirus infection rates have fallen in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester and remain below the national average, according to the latest data.

Stockport now has the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, replacing Trafford.

The borough recorded a rate of 315.4 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending February 16.

The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 214.2 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 268.4 cases per 100,000 population.

The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 456.5 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 7,612 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on February 16.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 3922 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 34 per cent in the last week.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on February 13, a total of 425 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 113 fewer than the week before, a fall of 36 per cent.

On Tuesday February 15, there were 27 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is two more than a week earlier.

Deaths

In the week ending February 16, a total of 41 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 23 fewer than the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 893,496 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,724 deaths.

Salford

In Salford, the latest infection rate is 298.1 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 27 per cent.

A total of 783 people tested positive for Covid in Salford over the seven days ending on February 16, which is 283 fewer than the week before.

Trafford

There were 723 positive tests over the last week in Trafford, which is 385 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Trafford is down by 35 per cent and the latest infection rate is 304.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Tameside

The trend is down in Tameside, where there were 598 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending February 16, which is 358 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 37 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Tameside is 263.3 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Oldham

Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 509 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending February 16, which is 262 fewer than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 214.2 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 34 per cent week-on-week.

Stockport

In Stockport, there were 928 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending February 16, which is 510 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Stockport has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Stockport is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 35 per cent.

Wigan

Wigan saw a total of 868 cases in the week ending February 16, which is 407 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 32 per cent.

In Wigan, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 262.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Rochdale

There was a fall of 26 per cent in cases in Rochdale over the week ending February 16, and the infection rate is now 251.7 cases per 100,000 population.

Rochdale recorded 563 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 200 fewer than the previous week.

Bury

In Bury, the number of cases is down by 34 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 245.4 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 468 positive Covid-19 tests in Bury in the week ending February 16, which was 243 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Bolton

Bolton is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 217.9 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 628 cases recorded in Bolton, which is 565 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 47 per cent.

Manchester

Manchester recorded 1544 coronavirus cases, which is 709 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Manchester is 277.8 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 31 per cent week-on-week.
