Coronavirus hospitalisations drop by over 75 percent in Greater Manchester as infection rates continue to plummet

Hospital admissions with Covid-19 in Manchester have dropped by more than 75 per cent in the last week, as infection rates continue to plummet across the region.

Coronavirus rates have fallen below the national average in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, according to the latest data.

Tameside continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, with a rate 983.2 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending January 23.

The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 729.7 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 813.3 cases per 100,000 population - lower than the national average of 1003.8 per 100,000.

A total of 23,063 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on January 23.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 3662 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 14 per cent in the last week.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on January 23, a total of 676 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 291 fewer than the week before, a fall of 76 per cent.

On Tuesday January 25, there were 31 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is seven fewer than a week earlier.

Deaths

In the week ending January 23, a total of 94 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 34 fewer than the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 792,680 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,410 deaths.

Rochdale

Rochdale recorded 1832 coronavirus cases, which is 421 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Rochdale is 819.1 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 19 per cent week-on-week.

Bury

In Bury, the latest infection rate is 830.6 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 14 per cent.

A total of 1584 people tested positive for Covid in Bury over the seven days ending on January 23, which is 252 fewer than the week before.

Bolton

The trend is down in Bolton, where there were 2321 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 23, which is 576 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 20 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Bolton is 805.2 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Trafford

There were 2048 positive tests over the last week in Trafford, which is 57 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Trafford is down by three per cent and the latest infection rate is 862.0 cases per 100,000 people.

Manchester

In Manchester, the number of cases is down by 16 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 780.9 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 4340 positive Covid-19 tests in Manchester in the week ending January 23, which was 847 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Tameside

In Tameside, there were 2233 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 23, which is 213 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Tameside has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Tameside is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by nine per cent.

Oldham

Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 1734 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 23, which is 389 fewer than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 729.7 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 18 per cent week-on-week.

Wigan

Wigan saw a total of 2614 cases in the week ending January 23, which is 279 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of ten per cent.

In Wigan, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 790.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Stockport

There was a fall of eight per cent in cases in Stockport over the week ending January 23, and the infection rate is now 787.9 cases per 100,000 population.

Stockport recorded 2318 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 195 fewer than the previous week.

Salford

Salford is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 776.2 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 2039 cases recorded in Salford, which is 433 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 18 per cent.
