Coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester see weekly increase of over 60 per cent according to latest data

Coronavirus infection rates have gone up in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, with latest data revealing the week on week increase is over 60 per cent.

Trafford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, with a rate of 530.8 cases per 100,000 in the week ending March 11. This is narrowly less than the national average of 579.6 cases per 100,000.

The lowest infection rate is in Rochdale, where the rate is 223.6 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 350.7 cases per 100,000 population, which is still lower than the national average, which is 579.6 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 9,946 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on March 11. The Greater Manchester weekly total has increased by 3898 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was up 64 per cent in the last week.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on March 06, a total of 335 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 27 more than the week before, a rise of 9 per cent.

On Tuesday March 08, there were 11 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is three fewer than a week earlier.

Deaths

In the week ending March 11, a total of 16 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 11 fewer than the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 916,543 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,810 deaths.

Tameside

Tameside saw a total of 743 cases in the week ending March 11, which is 289 more than the previous week. That is a rise of 64 per cent.

In Tameside, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 327.1 cases per 100,000 people.

Bury

In Bury, the latest infection rate is 388.6 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone up by 63 per cent.

A total of 741 people tested positive for Covid in Bury over the seven days ending on March 11, which is 287 more than the week before.

Wigan

There was a rise of 65 per cent in cases in Wigan over the week ending March 11, and the infection rate is now 325.7 cases per 100,000 population.

Wigan recorded 1077 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 426 more than the previous week.

Stockport

There were 1443 positive tests over the last week in Stockport, which is 593 more than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Stockport is up by 70 per cent and the latest infection rate is 490.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Oldham

Oldham is an area where the trend is up. The latest infection rate here is 246.2 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 585 cases recorded in Oldham, which is 184 more than the previous week - a rise of 46 per cent.

Salford

Salford recorded 903 coronavirus cases, which is 348 more than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Salford is 343.7 cases per 100,000 people and that is up 63 per cent week-on-week.

Trafford

In Trafford, there were 1261 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 11, which is 608 more than the previous 7 days.

Trafford has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Trafford is up slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is up by 93 per cent.

Rochdale

Rochdale, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 500 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 11, which is 157 more than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Rochdale is now 223.6 cases per 100,000 people and is up by 46 per cent week-on-week.

Manchester

The trend is up in Manchester, where there were 1897 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 11, which is 702 more than the previous 7 days. That is up by 59 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Manchester is 341.3 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Bolton

In Bolton, the number of cases is up by 62 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 276.2 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 796 positive Covid-19 tests in Bolton in the week ending March 11, which was 304 more than the previous 7 days.
