Coronation Street actress Dolly-Rose Campbell has teased an important moment set to air during Chesney and Gemma's wedding.
The star, 36, has played Gemma Winter on the ITV soap since 2014. Her character is set to tie the knot with Weatherfield local Chesney Brown, played by Sam Aston. Dolly-Rose shared her excitement at the special scene, which showcases a conversation in British Sign Language that will air during the wedding.
She said that her character Gemma has been learning sign language on the soap after discovering that one of her quadruplets, Aled, was born deaf.
The actress herself as been learning BSL since the storyline began, and added that while all viewers will be able to watch the scene unfold, only those who know sign will understand the conversation.
Speaking about the special moment she hopes doesn't go unnoticed, Dolly-Rose translated the signing and gave hints of when it could air. She told The Mirror and other press: "So I don't know if it will be caught in the wedding. Cherylee Houston [who plays Izzy Armstrong] can sign as well.
"So she was signing with the interpreter in the background, and when I looked over she was telling the interpreter that she had been dyeing the dress in her bath, and it dyed her bath.
"I don't know if the whole conversation will be seen, and you'd have to know [some sign language] to be able to catch it."
Explaining her decision to learn BSL in real life, she added: "We were going to have a deaf actor on set as part of our family. He can't learn not to be deaf.
"So it made sense for me, for Sam [Aston] or for Jane [Hazlegrove], one of us to learn how to sign so that we can help him when he needs help.'
Dolly-Rose also discussed the incredible wedding dress that Gemma will walk down the aisle in, which is orange with a two-metre wide skirt. She said: "I was just blown away by the dress. It's an absolute work of art.
"It's the detail that's gone into it. It's just beyond anything I ever imagined. And it was quite comfortable. It actually was, compared to a lot of Gemma's other costumes because it was made to fit from scratch. I really enjoyed wearing it."
On the design, she said: "I had big, big ideas for what I wanted for Gemma's dress and I was discussing it with the costume department. The thing that kept coming up was where are we going to get something like that from? And I knew of this designer Liquorice Black from going to their studio a few years ago, and seeing all the costumes they were making.
"So I said I do know of someone who can make this but I don't think they will do it because they're really busy. I met with him and he agreed as his grandmother was a fan of the show! I was overjoyed."
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
