A Coronation Street star’s real-life mum has bagged a role in the ITV soap as the serial killer storyline continues.
Enid Dunn – mum of Antony Cotton, who plays Corrie legend Sean Tully – is set to appear in the show later this month.
The 79-year-old actress will reportedly play the role of a housekeeper who ends up being involved in businessman Rufus Donahue’s death.
Rufus will be found dead in a swimming pool by Enid’s character as serial killer Stephen Reid’s reign of terror continues.
It was recently revealed Rufus would be Stephen’s next victim following the deaths of Leo and his father Teddy.
Stephen is set to lose it after Rufus - who knows he has been drugging factory boss Carla - asks for more money.
The Mirror has approached Coronation Street reps for further comment.
It’s not the first time Enid, who used to work as a haute couture seamstress before turning to acting in her 50s, has appeared in Coronation Street.
Back in 2002 she played Joan Lawson, the aunt of mechanic Dennis Stringer who died in a car crash shortly after his affair with Les Battersby’s wife Janice was revealed.
A few years later in January 2006 she played an ‘old crone’ attending an art exhibition at Weatherfield Gallery.
June 2011 saw her play an ‘unnamed woman’ in a scene and her last appearance in February 2014 was as bingo player Maureen Rothwell.
Enid also starred in special The Road to Coronation Street in 2010 as Agnes, the Granada tea lady who told Corrie creator Tony Warren that his planned title, Florizel Street, sounded like a disinfectant.
Aside from Corrie, Enid has had several other TV roles since the 1990s after deciding to follow son Sean into acting.
Her 50th birthday prompted the career change and since then she has appeared in Doctors, The Bay, Shameless, Bancroft, Merseybeat and 2022 series Compulsion.
She had a recurring role as Betty Pargetter in hairdressing series Cutting It, starring Sarah Parish and Amanda Holden.
Viewers may also have spotted her in Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights as barmaid Joyce and in an one-off episode of Max & Paddy’s Road To Nowhere.
Enid has even appeared with son Antony in an advert for Yorkshire-based internet provider Plusnet.
The 47-year-old couldn’t stop laughing in the cheeky clip, leaving his mum with no choice but to tell him off.
Joking, she says: “You’re not too big for a slap Antony. In front of these, I don’t care!”
Antony first appeared in Coronation Street as character Sean in 2003, but was made a full-time character in 2004.
He went on to win Best Actor at the British Soap Awards in 2007 and was named Funniest Character at the Inside Soap Awards.
