Coronation Street's Simon Barlow actor Alex Bain rushed to A&E with painful injury

Coronation Street actor Alex Bain has reassured fans after being rushed to hospital.

The 20-year-old, who has played Simon Barlow since he was a child, shared photos of himself in a wheelchair in A&E.

In a now-deleted Instagram Story post, Alex tagged Blackburn Hospital A&E as he joked that he was "not where he expected to end up" that evening.

He wrote: "Not where I expected to be tonight. Don’t worry guys it’s just my ankle."

Alex went on to reveal that he needed to have a foot brace fitted after suffering the injury.

He later explained that he was still in a wheelchair as he was set to go on holiday to Frankfurt.

The actor quipped: "Got a fancy new set of wheels! Thank you to the helpful people at Manchester Airport."

It comes after Alex made a rare public appearance with girlfriend Mollie Lockwood last week.

They met through Alex's second job as a choreographer and have posted a few snaps of their relationship on Instagram.

Alex was aged just 17 when he became a father to Lydia-Rose just after sitting his GCSEs.

"I adore having a child, I really do, and I wouldn't have it any other way. But don't get me wrong, she runs me ragged!" he joked.

"It was quite nice to take a breather in lockdown, and have time to slow down and watch my daughter grow. She's actually just started nursery, which is pretty scary.

"My family has always said that I was exactly like she is when I was her age. Before Covid, she was going to dance classes as well, so she's really following in her dad's footsteps. She's always dancing and singing – it's great!"

In May last year, Alex was the victim of cruel trolling on social media after bullies criticised his parenting skills.

Defending himself he took to Instagram stories to highlight the "struggle" of being a "single dad," refusing to accept any further nasty comments.

"Anyone don't like me and the way I've raised my daughter then they can pop up and DM me and we can talk about it honestly had enough," he posted on Instagram stories.
