Coronation Street's Rob Mallard scolded by co-star for how he celebrates Christmas Day

Coronation Street's Rob Mallard was scolded by his co-star as he revealed how he celebrates Christmas Day.

The soap star is renowned for his role as Daniel Osbourne in the ITV show. It has been a busy festive season for the character as he is set to propose to Daisy Midgeley on Christmas Day.

Daisy is played by Charlotte Jordan and the two soap stars spoke to the ECHO and other press at the grand opening of Weatherfield Precinct earlier this month. Rob lifted the lid on his celebrations for the big day as he revealed he struggles to get into the festive spirit.

The 30-year-old said: "I've been told that I have to look forward to it. I've been told I have to put a tree up and I have to put a wreath on my door. I just think Christmas isn't magical unless you're around kids.

"This year I will be because I'll be with my nieces and nephews so I imagine it will be a magical one. Without that and without you yourself being young enough to be in the magic, it's just a big p**s up isn't it."

Charlotte disagreed with her co-star as she said she couldn't wait for Christmas Day. She joked: "Luckily I am a giant child so I have no problem getting into the Christmas spirit."

The 27-year-old then demanded her co-star be "shamed" to reveal what he had instead of a Christmas tree as Rob said: "A Poinsettia with a bauble hanging off it. It looks great."

Charlotte disagreed as she branded Rob's festive tree substitute as "rubbish". Charlotte spoke to the ECHO at the start of December and she revealed why her Christmas tree went up extra early this year.

She said: "I find that at Christmas you don't actually spend that much time in your own flat so that's why I wanted it up prematurely because you spend a lot of it at work. I also go down South to spend Christmas with my family and we've got my boyfriend's family to see so I wanted to enjoy my tree for as long as possible."

Charlotte also gave an insight into what her favourite part of Christmas Day was. She said: "The cheese, the wine and the games are the best bit. I have no children to be around which is absolutely fine by me because I can get hammered and I don't have to filter anything. I can swear as much as I like."
