Coronation Street's Kirk star looked very different before joining the soap

Coronation Street star Andy Whyment is best known as Kirk Sutherland on the cobbles.

The actor has been in Corrie since 2000, but prior to his arrival in Weatherfield he had a number of roles on other popular programmes. Andy played Darren, the best friend of Ralf Little's character Anthony, in The Royle Family.

He also starred in Heartbeat as Eric, back in 2000 before he joined Coronation Street.

On Thursday, Andy shared a number of snaps of himself in Heartbeat and the star looks completely different in the photos. The images show a 19-year-old Andy with a full head of hair and a slightly uneven fringe.

Captioning the post on Instagram, the star said: "Throwback to when I played Eric in Heartbeat 22 years ago forgot what I looked like with a full head of hair". His Corrie cast mates were quick to comment.

Lisa George, who plays Kirk's husband Beth Tinker, said: "Look at you!!!! So cute!!!!", while Abi Webster actress Sally Carman said: "Aww, baby Andy!".

Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs on the cobbles, said: "I remember that guy. And that fringe too". Carol Vorderman said: "Bless him".
