Coronation Street's Helen Worth shrieks with joy as Prince William honours her with MBE

Coronation Street star Helen Worth was beaming with joy when Prince William honoured her with an MBE.

The 72-year-old actress was awarded for her services to drama at Windsor Castle on Tuesday morning.

Helen, who has played Gail Platt on the soap since 1974, looked over the moon as she chatted with the Prince Of Wales.

She looked beautiful in a professional black blazer over a printed blouse and a black pleated maxi skirt.

The star accessorised with a chic netted fascinator.

At one point, Helen clapped her hands together as she smiled at Prince William. He looked equally as happy to be chatting with her.

Helen made her debut as Gail in 1974 and went through many dramatic storylines and had many marriages.

She tied the knot five times, including with Brian Tilsey (played by Christopher Quinten) - who was stabbed to death.

Her character was also married to Martin Platt (played by Sean Wilson).

The Coronation Street star previously opened up about an incident between her a nd an on-screen lover's real-life partner.

The actress was chatting to former co-star Nigel Havers on This Morning in 2021 when she told the hilarious story involving his wife.

Nigel played scheming Lewis Archer in the ITV soap until his exit in 2019 when the con artist died from a heart attack.

Before he was killed off, one of his most shocking storylines saw Nigel embark on a secret affair with Gail, as he planned to scam her out of thousands of pounds.

During their broadcasted lunch on This Morning, Helen told her former co-star of the time she bumped into his real-life wife while shopping in a local butcher's - shortly after their on-screen kiss had aired.

"I was in Walters Butchers and from behind me I felt a hand on my shoulder," the Corrie veteran began her tale.

"A lady's voice said, 'The last time I saw you, you were kissing my husband.'

"And there was a deep breath from the whole of the butchers which was full, as they waited for fisticuffs" Helen laughed.

"I turned around and there was your lovely lady wife and she said, 'You don't know me but I'm Mrs Havers.'"
