Coronation Street fans are concerned Carla Connor has put herself in danger with a "stupid" mistake.
The factory owner, played by Alison King, 49, hired killer Stephen Reid to work at Underworld - even though he's a multi-millionaire.
The villain - played by Todd Boyce - bumped off Leo Thompkins by pushing him off the factory balcony - and now viewers reckon Carla could be next.
Astounded why Weatherfield residents didn't question why Stephen would want the job at Underworld, one fan tweeted: "Do they not think it’s weird that millionaire businessman Stephen is now the factory dogsbody?"
Another wrote: "No interview, no references, yet Stephen's ok to start the job, and how is it ok for Sally to show him all the computer system? Carla is a very sloppy manager…"
While a third mused: "Would Carla really be that stupid and leave Stephen in charge of the factory, what’s happened to her?"
Some viewers think Stephen will run off with Carla's cash after accessing the accounts, or worse he might kill again.
One mused: "Could Stephen kill Carla? I wouldn't put it past him."
While another predicted: "If Stephen gets access to the underworld accounts, he’ll be ripping them off in no time."
In Wednesday's episode, Carla hired Stephen when his niece Sarah quit to pursue her own business venture with Michael.
However, when Sarah returned asking for her job back, she was shocked to see her uncle was hired as her replacement.
Stephen told Sarah not to worry as he vowed to get her contacts and a space to rent, but fans aren't having any of it.
They initially thought the villain would bump off his mum Audrey Roberts to steal her money - or Gail Platt, who has rumbled he's not as financially secure as he says he is.
But now it looks like Carla is in the firing line.
Stephen's web of deceit comes back to haunt him in the new year as Teddy's fate is revealed on Coronation Street.
Teddy's son Leo was killed by Stephen after he worked out the conman was trying to fleece his own mother Audrey. The pair fought on the top of the roof, before Leo was pushed to his death with Stephen hiding the body.
Making sure his tracks were covered, Stephen tried to make it look like Leo had headed to Canada.
However, he's dealt a blow when Teddy starts to make a recovery after a freak accident at Christmas.
As he arrives to visit him in hospital, Stephen finds Teddy unconscious, however as the patient opens his eyes, Stephen's fate may well be sealed.
