Coronation Street fans amazed to hear Daisy Midgley star's real accent at Soap Awards

Corrie star Charlotte Jordan, who plays Daisy Midgley in the soap, stunned fans when she revealed she is not a born and bred Northerner.

The shock came when the actress, 28, appeared on stage to collect her trophies for winning two categories at the British Soap Awards 2023, which aired on Tuesday night.

The annual glitzy awards bash is normally hosted by Phillip Schofield but after his recent shock departure from ITV was replaced by former Loose Women star Jane McDonald.

Celebrating the great and the good of Soapland, the show brought together stars of Coronation Street, Emmerdale, EastEnders, Doctors and Hollyoaks in The Lowry Theatre at Salford Quays.

Looking stunning in a pink, figure-hugging strapless dress, Charlotte was one of the first winners on stage with co-stars Ryan Prescott, who plays Ryan Connor, and Andrew Still, who appears as Justin Rutherford, to collect the award for Scene of The Year.

Taking to the stage to collect her trophy for her portrayal as stalking and acid attack victim Daisy, the actress thanked her fans, team and co-stars.

However, it was Charlotte's "posh" accent distracted viewers.

Taking to Twitter while watching the ceremony, one viewer wrote: "#BritishSoapAwards Charlotte Jordan is rather posh, isn't she!"

While another person added: "I cannot believe charlotte jordan sounds like that irl omg?? #britishsoapawards."

"Had no idea Charlotte Jordan was putting on her Manchester accent #britishsoapawards2023," confessed someone else.

A fourth fan penned: "Totally shocked at how different Charlotte Jordan sounds to her character Daisy in #Corrie but she’s fabulous nevertheless . Well deserved award! #britishsoapawards2023."

"Wasn't expecting Charlotte Jordan to sound so posh in real life. #Corrie #SoapAwards #BritishSoapAwards2023," admitted another viewer.

Coronation Street scooped six trophies on the night but it was EastEnders who won the coveted trophy for Best Soap, the first time since 2015.

Corrie's acid attack plot won prizes for Best Single Episode and Scene of the Year, with Charlotte winning Best Dramatic Performance for her work on powerful story.
