Corrie fans have suggested a major shake-up to the ITV soap after an Emmerdale legend quit after six years.
Sharon Marshall announced that she would be leaving her job as a writer on the rival ITV soap Emmerdale after a long stint penning scripts for the Dales drama.
The 51-year-old, known as the Queen of Soaps, also regularly appears on This Morning to fill fans in on all the soap spoilers and what viewers can expect on each of the long-running dramas.
Yet, she has now shared with fans the news that she will be moving onto other projects.
Taking to social media, she wrote: “My last Emmerdale is on tonight at 7:30pm.
“Off to writing pastures new now but it’s been an absolute joy and privilege to play in the Dales for six years. I’ll hugely miss the fabulous team.”
Sharon’s colleagues on Emmerdale, including Bernice Blackstock actress Samantha Giles, rushed to support her amid the big announcement.
Samantha penned: “You’ll be missed lots of love and luck in your new adventures xxxx.”
Coronation Street fans have now suggested that Sharon could be a perfect new addition to the cobbles, hoping she might soon bring her dialogue writing skills over to the Weatherfield-based drama.
Taking to Reddit, one user said: “So she’s leaving Emmerdale as a writer, please come to Coronation Street!! I really love her work and always felt her passion for soaps over the years so she would have our back as fans!!!”
As another agreed: “Yeah I feel like Corrie could actually be a natural move for her. Although the storylines have been quite similar between both soaps recently anyway.”
Meanwhile, there was also plenty of speculation on Twitter, as one viewer told Sharon: “Sorry to hear you’ve left Emmerdale, always enjoyed your episodes. Will we hear of your next venture very soon? I’m not so secretly hoping there’s cobbles there.”
“Please say you’re going to the cobbles to write some decent episodes Corrie the Stephen story line is terrible please,” someone else begged.
While a fifth posted: “Can you come and sort Corrie out pls it’s in desperate need of new writers!”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV, while Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV.
