Coronation Street is lining up a shooting horror, that could lead to the death of a Weatherfield favourite.
Spider Nugent faces a race against time to save partner Toyah Battersby, as she's held hostage by someone linked to racist Griff. It comes after a threat to Spider days earlier, after he helped put racist Griff put behind bars earlier this year in the soap's dark extremism storyline.
Spider was confirmed to be an undercover detective working to bring Griff and his group down from the inside and he almost died when the truth came out. Now, a threat has arrived at Spider's door it seems, with Griff possibly having taken revenge - while more details are yet to be revealed.
Next week, Toyah is missing and Spider is desperate to find her without the help of the police. He fears police involvement will make matters worse.
There's panic though when Spider receives a text message telling him to follow instructions or Toyah will be killed. Spider sets out on a mission to save her - but will he die in the process?
Arriving at the waste ground he's been told to go to, Spider sees the kidnapper and attempts to save Toyah. But his life is on the line when he sees the kidnapper has a gun.
He and Toyah are now at risk of death and while details remain under wraps, it's confirmed that suddenly a shot rings out. But who has been shot and will they die?
In scenes to air later this week, Spider receives a shock amid danger for him and his family, as a comment from Leanne Battersby alerts him that something is very wrong.
Soon his worst fears are realised, as he races home to find his partner Toyah Battersby and Leanne's stepson Sam missing from the flat - and there's blood everywhere. It emerges that Griff is out for blood, as Spider is warned by his superintendent that he might do well to move away from the street with a new identity.
Later in the week, amid the new role offer, Spider receives a message from his pursuer with instructions to meet. Without letting on to Toyah, Spider informs his superiors and heads off to the location - but his unknown enemy fails to turn up.
Meanwhile at the flat, a woman arrives to see Toyah, introducing herself as Spider’s wife and Toyah speaks with her about recent events. Back to Spider, and alarm bells ring when Leanne sees him and he tells her that his wife isn’t in the country.
Spider phones Toyah and warns her the woman is an imposter, but Toyah is trapped and it seems she is attacked. Leanne and Spider burst into the flat they find signs of a disturbance, no Toyah or Sam, and blood on the floor.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on Virgin Media and the Virgin Media Player.
