The team behind the much-loved Chelsea restaurant Medlar are set to open a new rooftop restaurant in Belgravia in the summer of this year.
Dubbed Cornus, this is the first new restaurant from the team in 15 years, having opened Medlar on the King’s road restaurant in 2011.
The new restaurant will occupy a space in the soon-to-open Ice Factory in Belgravia’s Eccleston Yards. The name of the new building stems from the 200-year-old original use of the site, once home to Shingleton’s Ice Company, and promises to be one of the only rooftop venues in the local area.
The restaurant has been supported in part by Grosvenor’s Tenant Investment Fund, the property investment vehicle which helped launch a Mr Fogg’s bar in Mayfair 2022, as well as supporting JKS to launch Bibi on North Audley Street in 2021.
Cornus founder and Medlar co-owner David O’Connor noted: “We can offer Belgravia a unique, independent high-end restaurant, that would represent one of the most important hospitality openings of the year.”
Whilst details on the style of cuisine, menus and size of the restaurant remain in development O’Connor continued: “The aim is for the restaurant to become an institution over time and compete with the very best London has to offer. We plan to instil our strong customer service philosophy, creating repeat business, and attach a world-class wine program with our network of highly skilled sommeliers.”
The opening of Ice Factory represents the continued regeneration of the Eccleston Yards area, having initially launched in 2018 with over a dozen new restaurant and retail spaces including Jones Family Kitchen, Wild by Tart and Biscuiteers.
