Cork man breaks legs jumping from third-storey window after thinking date's boyfriend arrived home

A man broke both his legs jumping out of a third-storey window after mishearing his date say her boyfriend had arrived home - when in fact it was just her housemate.

This incident, which happened in a Cork city house, sparked a huge emergency response.

The housemate in question had gotten in the door from walking his puppy and was met by his female housemate on her date.

The woman was chatting to her housemate when they heard a massive bang on the footpath outside and ran out to find the man she had been on a date with crawling away from the house.

After stopping to make sure that he was okay after the steep jump they then asked what happened.

"He said that he thought it was her boyfriend that had arrived home and that he had panicked, he couldn't walk after the impact, we made him stay put and phoned an ambulance, as I'm honestly amazed he escaped that drop and wasn't even more seriously injured," the housemate who had arrived home told Cork Beo.

Two fire service vehicles plus multiple emergency services rushed to the scene.

"They put him on a stretcher with a neck brace in case he did have serious injuries. He got in touch with my roommate the next day to say that he was okay, and even asked for a second date, we later found out that his legs were broken," the man who lives in the house said.

The man is currently in a stable condition and has broken both of his legs due to the impact of the fall. He is now focusing on his recovery.
