Jaze Kabia is one of a number of players Cork City are looking at to boost squad numbers as they look to continue their recent good form with the trip to Derry City on Friday night.
And the Leesiders are in talks with Matt Healy about remaining at Turner's Cross beyond the end of the month after the on loan midfielder's Ipswich contract wasn't renewed.
Ex-Cobh and Shels striker Kabia, son of former City favourite Jason, was released by Livingston last month after loan spells with a number of Scottish clubs, including Falkirk.
“Jaze has come in for a couple of days training," said interim boss Richie Holland.
“He’s obviously back from Scotland and he’s had a bit of an injury as well so at the moment he has just come in to train with us.
“He’s had a bit of a long lay-off and stuff like that and he’s back over so he’s training. We'll see what happens.
“That will be Liam’s (Buckley) remit there and for us as coaches we are looking at him as well to see how he does.”
Despite winning four of their last five League games, Holland stressed that there are areas in the team where City are "quite light" at the moment.
He revealed today that Ethon Variant is the latest player sidelined, having suffered an ACL injury - and recruitment is at the top of the club's agenda.
Goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi has also returned to Celtic after his loan spell.
"That’s something myself, Liam and the staff are looking at, we’re looking at a number of players," Holland said.
Healy is a priority in terms of being tied down to a more permanent deal.
“There’s discussions at the moment with Matt," said Holland. “Liam is dealing with that. Matt's a very good young player and we're hoping he stays."
Variant, meanwhile, suffered the long-term set-back a fortnight ago in training in a similar scenario to how Darragh Crowley sustained his ACL injury.
"Same kind of action, receiving a football and trying to open up. Unfortunately he went down and you fear the worst straight away," said Holland.
“It’s the ones where there is nobody around that are the ones that are long-term. We were waiting in hope that the scan would come back and it wouldn’t be as bad as first feared.
“But it’s come back that he’s done his ACL and he’s out for the rest of the season.
"He’s done really well so we will look after him here, make sure his rehab is done and hopefully himself and Darragh are back as quick as they can.”
