Cork camogie star Ashling Thompson has slammed the controversial timing of the proposed All-star tour, confirming that she and her teammates were set to boycott the tour.
Seven Cork players will not play on the 2023 tour of Canada due to scheduling conflicts.
The players involved in the tour are expected to fly out to Canada in the middle of May, with the tour set to take place between May 19th and May 25th.
This is just one week prior to the beginning of the 2023 All-Ireland Championship, which kicks-off on the weekend of June 3/4.
On Thursday, Thompson spoke to the Irish Examiner and explained her issues with the timing of the tour.
“How could you expect seven players to turn their back on their teammates at probably the most important time of the year leading up to championship. We wouldn't have All-Stars only for our teammates,” she said.
Later on Thursday, Thompson took to Twitter to to discuss the situation further:
"Not to mention - provisional fixtures: Munster Camogie Championship 21st May. In addition, @MunsterCamogie Final 28th of May - double header with Tipp v Waterford @MunsterGAA Hurling Championship in Semple Stadium. Also potentially ruling out Waterford Camogie all stars 2022."
Fellow Cork camogie star Laura Hayes also took to Twitter to give her thoughts on the situation:
"Very disappointing to be missing out on this once in a lifetime trip. We feel extremely let down by our own association. How can we leave our teammates in the middle of championship preparation when we wouldn’t have an all-star without them? @CorkCamogie @MunsterCamogie," said Hayes.
