- Kristi Noem’s senior advisor Corey Lewandowski will also depart the Department of Homeland Security after Noem’s firing, according to reports.
- President Donald Trump fired Noem Thursday after mounting criticism over her handling of his immigration crackdown and concerns over rumors of an affair between Noem and Lewandowski.
- Noem was confronted about the alleged affair this week during Congressional hearings. “At any time during your tenure as director of the Department of Homeland Security, have you had sexual relations with Corey Lewandowski?” California Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove asked at a hearing Wednesday.
- “Mr. Chairman, I am shocked we are going down and peddling tabloid garbage in this committee today,” Noem replied. Her husband, Bryon Noem, was seated behind her at the hearing and left the room right before the question was asked.
- Noem and Lewandowski were also under fire over a $220 million ad campaign, with her remarks about the campaign reportedly becoming the last straw for Trump.
