BHOPAL: In Madhya Pradesh, children above 14 years (up to 15 years of age), will be administered Covaxin (BBV152). Children aged 12 to 13 years will be given Biological E’s Corbevax, according to state immunization in charge, Dr Santosh Shukla.
The decision was taken during a meeting of senior state health officials on Wednesday. After the meeting, it was informed that CoWin, the portal for vaccine registration, has been updated to accommodate the new group.
The state will start the vaccination for the new group from March 23 for an estimated 30 lakh children who would be added to the vaccination eligibility list. Other states rolled out jabs for 12 to 14 year old from Wednesday.
Covid-19 preventive vaccination of children in the age-group of 15-18 years had started on January 3. For such beneficiaries, the vaccination option is only Covaxin.
Covaxin (BBV152) is an inactivated virus-based Covid-19 vaccine. Children aged 12 to 13 years will be Biological E’s Corbevax, a protein sub-unit vaccine, a protein sub-unit vaccine.
Both the vaccines are safe. Two doses would be administered, 28 days apart, said Dr Shukla.
