Police are searching for the missing partner of a pregnant teacher who was found dead in 'suspicious' circumstances, the Record understands.
Marelle Sturrock, 35, was discovered dead after officers were called to a property on Jura Street in Govan at 8.40am on Tuesday. Her death is being treated as suspicious and police enquiries are ongoing.
A large-scale search for a missing man was launched at Mugdock Country Park on Tuesday – this is being treated as linked to the death.
The Record understands the man police are searching for is Marelle's partner, David Yates. Searches remain ongoing.
Cops were seen swarming the woodland at Mugdock Country Park yesterday morning, with dog units and a helicopter in attendance. Images from the scene show a large section close to an entrance of the park taped off as the search operation continues for a second day.
Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Kelly said: “Our thoughts are with Marelle’s family and friends, as well as everyone affected by this tragic incident. We are providing her family with support at this incredibly difficult time as our investigation to establish the full circumstances continues.
“A visible police presence will remain at both locations as our work continues. There is not believed to be any risk to the wider public but I would urge anyone with information or concerns to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0904 of April 25 or speak to any of our officers.”
Earlier we told how Marelle's colleagues raised the alarm after she failed to show up for work.
Friends of Marelle, who was a teacher at Sandwood Primary School in Glasgow, had gone to the 35-year-old's house on Tuesday morning but became concerned when she didn't answer the door.
The Record understands a letter has been sent to staff and parents of pupils at Sandwood Primary School after the popular teacher's tragic passing.
