Cops caught boozing at lockdown-busting Rangers party fined for breaking covid rules

Police chiefs have admitted police officers are among five people fined for breaking lockdown rules at a Rangers title party last year.

Laura McAulay and her former fiance Gordon Dunn had a boozy session with family and friends at a house in Rutherglen following the decisive result in January 2021.

An internal investigation took place in the wake of the incident at the home of Acting Sergeant McAulay's sister, when Scotland was in the midst of a strict lockdown, the Daily Record reports.

Police Scotland confirmed this week that five fines were handed out to those at the party.

McAulay and her ex-police constable partner went to Kirsten Hilton's home for a celebration after Celtic lost 2-1 to St Mirren at Celtic Park.

He was said to have downed four bottles of wine, two litres of beer and a gin cocktail while celebrating their defeat.

And McAulay's family were celebrating the fact that Hilton had passed a course for her job.

Dunn got so drunk he ended up committing a sectarian breach of the peace in the street and was convicted at Glasgow Sheriff Court last month.

He was fined £500 over the offence, which included singing "f*** you Celtic, we're gonnae win the league" and shouting "f*** the pope and the IRA".

On the same night, he had been dancing around to Rangers songs loudly in his living room after leaving the party, and pretended to be kissing the Premiership trophy.

His behaviour led to an argument, with McAulay later raising her hands to him and the couple eventually splitting up and cancelling their wedding.

She was cleared of domestic abuse earlier this month.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Inquiries were carried out and in line with Government legislation and Police Scotland enforcement action, fixed penalty notices were served."
