Cooper Kupp is making progress but unlikely to practice vs. Raiders this week

Cooper Kupp has been out of practice since the start of August after tweaking his hamstring on a red zone drill. The Rams have expressed very little concern about the injury, indicating he’ll be back before the start of the regular season.

What he’s unlikely to be back for is practice this week against the Raiders, though. Sean McVay said on Sunday that Kupp probably won’t be out there when the Rams hold their joint practices with Las Vegas.

He said Kupp is still making good progress but it’s understandable that the Rams wouldn’t want to rush him back before the season even begins. The team is instead hoping Kupp can be on the field next week when practicing with the Broncos.

“I would say it’s more likely that he will not, but I don’t have any clarity on that. Once I talk to Reggie (Scott), I’ll have a better idea, but I would think Denver’s probably a more realistic goal but there is a chance. He’s feeling good and making good progress, but I don’t know if we’ll have him go this week.”

Regardless of whether Kupp gets healthy enough before the final preseason game, he’s not going to play in it. Though Mcvay is playing some of his starters in these exhibition games, Kupp certainly won’t be one of them, nor will Aaron Donald or Matthew Stafford.
