Coolum man faces court over Sunshine Coast car crash that claimed life of 3-year-old boy

Man faces court over Coolum crash (ABC Sunshine Coast)

A 37-year-old man has appeared in court for the first time over a horrific car accident at Coolum, Queensland, that left a three-year-old child dead.

Micah Pesla Djordjevic fronted the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday morning.

He is facing multiple charges, including two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm, one count of failing to ensure a passenger was in a child restraint and drug driving.

Police allege Mr Djordjevic was driving a silver Mitsubishi Pajero on the Sunshine Motorway on May 30 when it collided head-on with a Mazda CX-9 travelling north.

Two three-year-olds – a boy and a girl – were in the back of the Pajero at the time.

The boy suffered critical injuries and died in the Sunshine Coast University Hospital the next day.

The driver and the female child sustained minor injuries.

A the 38-year-old female driver of the Mazda and her 12-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries and have since been released from hospital.

A four-year-old boy who was also in the Mazda sustained minor injuries.

Mr Djordjevic was charged following an investigation into the crash.

The Coolum man made a brief appearance in court and did not enter a plea.

The matter has been adjourned for a committal mention on October 21.
