Coolio to feature on new Futurama season after recording lines and rap before his death

Coolio will feature in the forthcoming season of animated sitcom Futurama after the late rapper recorded lines and rap music for an episode before his death.

The music world was left in shock on Wednesday after news broke that the Gangsta's Paradise star had passed away suddenly from a suspected heart attack at the age of 59.

The star, who also appeared in a number of past episodes dating as far back as 2001, played the role of character Kwanzaa-bot.

Fans were delighted to learn he reprised that role shortly before his untimely death, with one declaring on Twitter : "I'm so happy we're still gonna be hearing Kwanzaa Bot in the Futurama reboot, Coolio brings so much life to him, so I'm glad we're gonna hear him one more time, what a good send off honestly. God rest Coolio's soul, man."

Another added: "That's at least nice to hear. We are hearing his last words and his memory is being dedicated on one of his most memorable roles. Rest in paradise Coolio."

A third commented: "It's great we will see Coolio/Kwanzaa-Bot one more time. Hope the crew give him the proper send off he deserves."

The show's producer, David X. Cohen, meanwhile, revealed his shock at the news after recording the lines with the rapper just a matter of weeks ago.

He told TMZ that Coolio looked and sounded great in the studio, with the rapper even taking over the session's production and producing audio tracks for the episode.

Promising to give him the 'best send-off we can', David added: "Coolio was one of my favourite guests. He was always totally upbeat and genuinely enjoyed coming in to record as his character Kwanzaa-bot."

Coolio's long-time manager Jarez Posey told US media the artist was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of a friend's house in Los Angeles.

The exact cause of his death has not yet been revealed, however Mr Posey said paramedics believed he may have had a cardiac arrest. Mr Posey confirmed the star was visiting a friend in Los Angeles when they became concerned after he went to the bathroom and didn't return.

Paramedics tried to revive Coolio and performed CPR on the star for 45 minutes before he was pronounced dead, according to TMZ.

The new season of Futurama, which now has a home on Hulu alongside The Kardashians, will be the first in ten years when it airs next year.
