Gordon Ramsay says he feared he’d killed one of the contestants of his new reality show when he told her to literally jump off a cliff.
The 55-year-old foul mouthed Chef is set to entertain fans with his new series, Future Food Stars, which is pitched as a combination of The Apprentice and Kitchen Nightmares.
Gordon himself will invest £150,000 of his own money into the business of the successful contestant following weeks of challenges.
But the show is set to begin by showing Gordon himself jumping from a helicopter into the Ocean off the coast of Cornwall – before forcing his contestants to jump off a cliff into the sea themselves.
Speaking to new! magazine, Gordy said that one of the contestants almost struck a rock, which could have been fatal, as she didn’t look before she leapt.
He explained: “It’s also about that leap of faith in a way. I’m going to invest a lot of money in one of you and I need to see that you’re committed.
“I thought I’d lost Bola [a contestant with a seltzer drinks business] on that jump. I though, ‘This is going to be Future Food Stars A&E!’
“I said, ‘Look out, jump out.’ I swear to God, the distance between her and hitting a rock was the distance of a gnat’s b******s.”
Despite an apparent disregard for health and safety on the new show, the series is set to see a range of business people competing to win that cash prize – with an Indian sauce company owner and Japanese soft drinks company owner among the group of hopefuls.
Gordon goes on to explain that he takes a similar approach to dealing with his contestants as he does in a tough-love sense to his own family.
The chef is proud dad to five children; eldest daughter Megan, 23, Twins Holly and Jack who ware 22-years-old, recent Strictly star Tilly, 20, and two-year-old son Oscar.
Explaining how he takes a slightly parental approach to encouraging his Future Food Stars contestants, Gordon says he expects them to speak up when they make a mistake.
He said: “If you’re going to be working with my team, then when you make a mistake, own it. Accountability. Don’t half-own it and bulls**t that it wasn’t your responsibility.
“I tell the kids every day, ‘ The earlier you tell me, the more I can do.’ I’m not going to solve your problem, but I’ll give you a solution. That’s an important message.”
Elsewhere in his interview, Gordon also says he would absolutely jump at the chance to take part in Strictly Come Dancing like his daughter, Tilly, did.
In typically sweary style, Gordon said he would sign up “in a f***ing heartbeat” – but says he would refuse to wear sequins if he did make it into the cast.
