Conservative megadonor Miriam Adelson made headlines by donating a staggering $95 million to Preserve America, a prominent pro-Trump super PAC, during the third quarter of this year. The Federal Election Commission filings revealed that virtually all of the super PAC's funding for the quarter came from Adelson, the widow of the late casino magnate Sheldon Adelson.
Preserve America has played a significant role in supporting former President Donald Trump's reelection campaign, with Miriam and Sheldon Adelson being notable contributors to Republican candidates and causes over the past decade. Miriam Adelson, who was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Trump in 2018, has now contributed a total of $100 million to Preserve America this year.
The super PAC's financial report indicated that it spent nearly all of the $95 million it received in the third quarter. The bulk of these expenditures, amounting to almost $92 million, went towards independent expenditures, particularly on TV and digital advertising campaigns aimed at bolstering Trump's bid for a third term in the White House.
However, despite the substantial spending, Preserve America found itself with just $7.4 million in cash on hand at the end of September. This diminished war chest could potentially limit the super PAC's ability to make last-minute ad purchases in an already saturated presidential race, unless Miriam Adelson opts to make additional contributions in October.
