Conor McGregor tells of 'St Brigid's Eve tradition' as he urges fans to take part

Conor McGregor urged fans to take part in a St Brigid's Eve tradition as he took to social media on Tuesday evening.

The UFC star shared a photo from inside a church with his son Conor Jr as he wrote on Instagram: "Saint Brigid's Eve tradition

"Tonight is Saint Brigid's Eve.

"An old Irish tradition.

"Before you go to bed tonight hang a scarf or a cloth outside your door. Known as "Bratog"

"They say the saint will pass and bless them. And in the morning this special garment will protect the wearer from ill health and also has been known to cure headaches and sore throats.

"Happy Saint Brigid's Day tomorrow."

McGregor will also be hoping that that the blessing cures cuts after he was left with a gash on his bum after being hit by a car last week.

The Dubliner said he 'got away with his life' after the car ploughed into him on Friday afternoon as he cycled in the countryside near his home in Co Kildare.

Sharing a photo and two videos on Instagram, McGregor wrote: "Got a bang of a car just now from behind. A sun trap, the driver couldn’t see me. Full speed straight thru me. Thank you God, it wasn’t my time. Thank you wrestling and judo also. Having an awareness on the landing saved my life."

Meanwhile, the former two-weight UFC champion has been told that he could be fighting for a UFC belt in the near future by Michael Bisping.

"Whether you like it or not Conor's still the biggest start in the sport," Bisping explained to fans during a YouTube stream. "And with one win you can bet your bottom dollar that he's going to fight for the title. Of course he is, and the reality is that if you own the organisation and you've got a guy like Conor who can bring in millions of PPV buyers you'd probably do the same thing.

"I don't agree with it, but that's just the way the world works. Conor McGregor vs Tony Ferguson - Tony's very hittable and Conor's very good at hitting. Tony hasn't won, I think he's lost five in a row now, sadly for him. He got knocked out against Michael Chandler, what a knockout that was, absolutely beautiful.

"Tony's in a tough spot right now and Tony should probably retire. It's a good comeback fight for Conor. Find his mojo, knock someone out, get his confidence and potentially set up a title fight."
