Conor McGregor has taken a shot at Khabib Nurmagomedov 's weight after his UFC rival told fighters to snub Colby Covington.
Covington was allegedly attacked by his rival Jorge Masvidal outside of a restaurant in Miami on Monday.
Masvidal handed himself into police after the incident and was charged with aggravated battery and criminal mischief.
Footage emerged of the UFC star in handcuffs as he quickly ran into the station. Masvidal is alleged to have left his victim, who asked not to be named in the police report, with a fractured tooth and an abrasion to his left wrist.
Masvidal lost a one-sided unanimous decision to former teammate Covington in their UFC 272 grudge fight earlier this month. There was a heated build-up to the fight, with Masvidal taking exception to comments Covington made in which he labelled him a "deadbeat dad".
McGregor was quick to reply to Nurmagomedov's lengthy statement in which he encouraged welterweight fighters to not fight Covington, writing: "He'd just go up to middleweight because he's not a fat f****".
Former UFC lightweight champion Nurmagomedov, who officially retired last year, has previously exchanged words with Covington. The American branded him a "sheep lover" in 2019 and Nurmagomedov thinks Covington has taken things too far by bringing Masvidal's family into the picture.
"If you are stronger than someone inside the octagon, it does not mean that you can insult his children," Nurmagomedov wrote in the tweeted statement. "No one has the right to insult someone's family. Once you have gone down this path, then be ready to back up your words.
"You were attacked by professional fighter, the same as you are, your own size, and you go press charges against him to the police? "I think all welterweights should refuse to fight Colby.
"Just don't accept fights with him, let him sit without a fight, it will probably significantly affect him and all fighters who even think of insulting families, who is provoking the fighters to look for someone in restaurants to deal with him."
McGregor, who lost to Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in 2018, still takes shots at the Russian on social media as their feud continues to live on. The Irishman wanted to try and avenge his loss to Nurmagomedov, but 'The Eagle' vowed to never fight again after his father Abdulmanap sadly passed away.
Former two-weight champion McGregor is hoping to return to the cage this year after being sidelined with a broken tibia since last summer. He has called out welterweight champion Kamaru Usman for his return fight.
