Conor McGregor has to struggling during his recovery from his broken leg as he prepares to make a UFC comeback.
McGregor has been out of action for nearly two years after breaking his leg in a trilogy defeat to Dustin Poirier in July 2021 to end their bitter rivalry. The Irish superstar received extensive treatment and underwent surgery following the injury.
After a long road to recovery, McGregor finally announced that he will be making his return to the cage this year against Michael Chandler as part of the UFC's latest series of The Ultimate Fighter. An official date and venue has yet to be confirmed for the event, but the 34-year-old is currently in Las Vegas filming for the coaching part of the series.
Having failed to entirely address the struggles he faced during his comeback, McGregor has finally opened up about the uncertainties he faced while trying to complete his rehabilitation. "It was very very tough times, they were very tough times and very unsure times," McGregor said during an interview with Barstool Sports when opening up about his road to recovery.
"And you have only got to look at Chris Weidman who recently returned in a Jiu-Jitsu competition, I am very happy for Chris and believe me I am very happy to see that. It is a tough one there is no two ways about it. I'm blessed I had the best care and attention to it medically, thank you to the UFC and doctors for working on me.
"I had the best surgeons, doctors and I got it back thank god and I am already back better than ever. I'm excited to be back, and the bionic knee and I have been dropping the guys with the back shot, I have been dropping them all."

McGregor will be looking to also recover his form having fallen to losses in three of his last four UFC outings. A key characteristic in the Irishman's recovery has seen him pile on the pounds which has signalled that he could instead make a return at 170lb.
The former double-champion's last win came at 170lb against Donald Cerrone in 2020 and this could be a crucial part to breathing new life into his MMA career. UFC legend Michael Bisping has even suggested he would be happy to see the superstar receive a title shot if he gets back to winning ways.
“If McGregor gets it done, will we see him fight for the title next? That is a given,” Bisping said on his YouTube channel “That is 100 percent. Just prepare yourself mentally for that. Regardless of whatever you think, he’s the biggest star of the sport. He’s a former two-weight division champion, and he’s a person that people want to see fight."
