Conor Coady closing in £8.5m transfer to next club after Everton loan exit

Conor Coady is closing in on a move to Leicester City from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Everton confirmed at the start of this month that they had decided against triggering a £4.5 million option to sign Coady, with the centre-back returning to Wolves. The 30-year-old spent the majority of last season at Goodison Park after joining on loan during the summer.

The England international was an ever-present for Frank Lampard, but he fell out of favour under Sean Dyche. However, he did feature in the 1-0 victory over Bournemouth, which secured Everton’s top-flight status for another season.

And now, according to multiple reports, Wolves and Leicester have agreed a switch that will see the Molineux club receive an initial £7.5m fee, with a further £1m to follow should the Foxes earn an immediate return to the Premier League.

Coady is due to undergo a medical on Thursday ahead of completing the deal. The completion of the transfer will bring an end to his eight-year stay at Molineux.

The centre-back was brought to Goodison by the former Lampard after Bruno Lage, Wolves head coach at the time, decided the defender could leave on loan as he wanted to switch to a back four and deemed the England international surplus to requirements.

Coady made 25 appearances for the Blues, scoring twice against Southampton in the Premier League and Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Commenting on Coady's exit, Everton Director of Football Kevin Thelwell said: "We want to sincerely thank Conor and Ruben [Vinagre] for their impeccable professionalism and valuable contributions both on and off the pitch during their time with the club. We wish both players the best in their futures."
