Connor Goldson soaks up Rangers emotion as fans look for contract clues in defender's full time pause

Emotions ran high at Ibrox as a historic night for Rangers began to sink in among players and fans.

The old stadium was bouncing on Thursday as Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's side overcame Braga to book a place in the Europa League semi-finals.

Jubilant celebrations on the pitch and in the stands underlined just how much it meant as a remarkable run on the continent gets set to continue with a last four tie against RB Leipzig.

Rangers players conducted a final lap of honour before heading down the tunnel and footage - taken by Rangers fan "Gary 55" on Twitter - captured a moment of reflection from Connor Goldson which now has fans talking.

The ever-present centre-back is out of contract this summer and it looks increasingly unlikely he will sign a new deal - it's been several months since any updates made their way into the public domain.

It's why his pause for thought amid the jubilation was noted by supporters.

Some speculated the 30-year-old may be taking it all in with the knowledge these nights will soon become a thing of the past for him.

The defender squatted down on the pitch and received a word in the ear from Leon Balogun.

One supporter said: "Goldson was solid, his tracking back, won every header, but what was he doing here at the end? Looks like he knows it’s nearing the end of his time."

Another said: "Last night could have been his last European match ever. Cos when he leaves he won’t be going to a club that can give him these nights. I hope he has at least 3 more."

One fan wrote: "He’ll never experience nights like this at any other club. More cash, but must be bittersweet."

Others disagreed, however, suggesting Goldson was simply soaking up the moment after an incredible night - with some pointing out he did the same after the win over Borussia Dortmund.

One said: "He could just be knackered after 120 mins of football, and just soaking it all in. He probably never expected to reach a European semi final in his career."

Another said: "He done same thing against dortmund…. Just taking it all in"

And another agreed: "Enjoying the atmosphere, did it after Dortmund too."
