Connor Goldson details Rangers contract saga and admits he just needed 'time' to reach decision

Connor Goldson has opened up on his Rangers contract situation from last season as he admitted 'a lot of things got blown out of proportion'.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was handed a major pre-season boost after the defender put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at Ibrox. The ever-present defender has played a major role at the Light Blues since his arrival from Brighton under Steven Gerrard and will continue to do so for the next four years after committing his future to a stay in Glasgow.

Goldson says it was never a case of running down his contract in order to get a move elsewhere, it was always just a time factor to make the big call over. Rangers had a huge end to the season with the Europa League Final in Seville against Frankfurt and Hearts in the Scottish Cup Final just 72 hours apart. A decision to remain at the club was reached within days of a one week family holiday as the stopper opened up on the process.

Speaking to Sky Sports from the club's training camp out in the Algarve, he said: "I said all along that it wasn't like I was running my contract down to move, I just needed time to think about it.

"I didn't want to rush into anything when we had such big football matches to play [Europa League final, Scottish Cup final].

"I went away for a week with my family in the summer, spoke about it with my wife and a decision was made in a few days that I was going to sign for Rangers.

"Listen my wife has lived away from home for four years and doesn't really have any help here. It isn't just a football decision, I have to look after my family and my children.

"A lot of things got blown out of proportion last year. I have always been happy footballing wise, it is a great club to be at footballing wise.

"I love the feeling of having to win and the pressure that is demanded by the fans. I am happy with the decision that has been made."
