Looming free agent Connor Goldson is wanted by Nottingham Forest to kickstart their return to the English Premier League after a 23-year absence.
The Rangers standout has been an ever–present during four enjoyable years in Glasgow but signs point to the 29-year-old seeking a fresh challenge back in England.
Ibrox supporters will wish Goldson well if he does depart and there will be plenty of familiar faces if Forest land his signature.
Goldson faced Scotland star Scott McKenna on many occasions and both would feature as part of Steve Cooper's back three.
But it's pre-existing bond with Forest skipper Joe Worrall that will likely prove crucial as Goldson nears committing to his next club.
Worrall had a season-long loan at Rangers during the 2018/19 campaign and forged a strong bond with the man who could be joining him at the City Ground.
Goldson was vocal over his admiration of the Forest loanee and compared him favourably to Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire.
Some may believe the punchline writes itself, however, the much-maligned Old Traffiord star remains a key man under Gareth Southgate for England.
And his displays at Leicester and during the early days at Manchester United had many viewing the £75m investment as good business.
The Ibrox is a believer in the man who will be his captain at Forest and has forged a reputation as a player of merit.
Speaking in 2018, Goldson said: "I thought he was about 26. He looks and reminds me of Harry Maguire. The way he plays, the way he runs, the shape of him.
“He is very good and he is going to be a top player, you can see that. The way he defends, he is strong, he can move and in the air and on the floor he is good. He is going to be a top player and will be a good player for us.”
If Goldson pens a deal with Forest it will see him return to the Premier League where he made three appearances with Brighton before Steven Gerrard came calling.
