Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont Joins Call For Biden Withdrawal

Joe Biden

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has added his voice to the growing number of Democratic federal lawmakers urging President Biden to not seek re-election in 2024. Governor Lamont expressed his agreement with Rep. Jim Himes, who had previously called on Biden to step aside from the upcoming presidential election.

During a press conference in New Haven, Governor Lamont stated that he and Rep. Himes had reached a similar conclusion regarding President Biden's candidacy for the 2024 election. While Lamont did not provide specific details about his decision, he did commend the president for his performance at the recent NATO Summit news conference, mentioning that Biden had made the nation proud.

In response to inquiries about Governor Lamont's stance, his spokesperson Julia Bergman emphasized that the decision regarding Biden's candidacy ultimately rests with the President himself. Bergman clarified that Lamont's recent comments were reflective of this perspective.

Notably, Governor Lamont's public call for President Biden to step aside from the Democratic Party's presidential nomination marks a significant development. Lamont, who was among the first Democratic governors to endorse Biden during the 2020 election, now stands as the first Democratic governor to openly advocate for Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 race.
