Democratic Congressman Jared Moskowitz of Florida, who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, expressed his agreement with the Biden administration's stance on the recent announcement by three European countries regarding the recognition of Palestinian statehood. The White House reiterated its support for a two-state solution and emphasized the importance of direct negotiations between the parties to achieve a Palestinian state.

Congressman Moskowitz highlighted that the unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state by various countries is not a new development, with over 140 nations having already done so. He emphasized the need for direct negotiations to establish a Palestinian state, citing past efforts in the 1990s that were unsuccessful due to the rejection by Palestinian leadership.

Referencing historical events, Moskowitz recalled President Clinton's efforts to create a Palestinian state, which were met with refusal by the Palestinians and led to conflict. He stressed the importance of new leadership among the Palestinians and the involvement of the United States in facilitating negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.

Moskowitz expressed concern that the recent recognition by European countries could hinder progress towards peace, citing the example of Norway, which had played a role in facilitating financial transactions for the Palestinian Authority. Following Norway's recognition, Israel withdrew its ambassador, disrupting the partnership and potentially complicating future diplomatic efforts.

In conclusion, Congressman Moskowitz reiterated his support for a two-state solution but emphasized that lasting peace can only be achieved through direct negotiations involving all relevant parties. He expressed hope for a future where Israelis and Palestinians can come together with the support of the United States to establish a Palestinian state and work towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
