Representative Jared Moskowitz, a Democratic congressman on the Oversight Committee, recently discussed some of the impeachment inquiries involving President Donald Trump. Moskowitz voiced his concern over moderate Republican colleagues who could be making grave mistakes out of their fear for Trump.
The basis for Moskowitz's concern is Trump's demand of the Republican party and how he dominates 50% of the nation's impeachments and has 100% of the indictments in American history, compared to none for Joe Biden. Moskowitz stated that the impeachment process was being abused without providing any substantial evidence.
According to Moskowitz, even Senator Chuck Grassley, leading the investigation, found no evidence against Biden. Similarly, the Republicans' own constitutional witness in committee also testified that Biden's actions do not amount to high crimes and misdemeanors, the required threshold for impeachment.
In response to claims by Republicans that they aren't receiving the necessary documents from the White House, Moskowitz pointed out the voluminous amounts of paperwork that have been turned over, as well as the numerous depositions, testimonies, and hearings that have taken place. He argued strongly that there has been tremendous compliance from the White House, but the evidence does not suggest any wrongdoing on Biden's part.
The representative also expressed concern over the pending articles of impeachment, suggesting that even with weak evidence, they might still be pursued aggressively. With 118th Congress marked by upheavals within the Republican party, Moskowitz lamented that instead of focusing on foreign and domestic issues of significance, his Republican colleagues are preoccupied with this 'fake impeachment inquiry'.
Discussing Hunter Biden, who was expected to sit for a closed-door deposition but instead demanded a public hearing, Moskowitz defended Hunter’s action. He believes it was a bold move to call the bluff of the Republicans and their desire for a transparency.
Despite the ongoing turmoil, Moskowitz firmly believes in the principles of justice and rule of law, asserting that these principles should apply to all individuals, regardless of their political stature.
