A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s black magic barb at the Congress for wearing black clothes during their August 5 protests, the principal Opposition party announced a series of programmes against price rise that culiminate in Mehangai Par Halla Bol rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on August 28.
Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi today also took to Twitter to slam Mr Modi over his “black magic” comments and said that the dognity of the Prime Minister’s post should not be lowered.
“Prime Minister can’t see price rise? Unemployment isn’t visible? Stop lowering the dignity of the Prime Minister’s post and misleading the country by talking about superstitious things like ‘black magic’ to hide your black deeds, Prime Minister-ji,” Mr. Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.
Congress general secretary communications Jairam Ramesh, in a statement, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s desperate attempt to tar legitimate protest as “black magic” only highlights the BJP government’s insecurity about its failure to control rampaging inflation and unemployment”.
“The Congress party will take this fight forward with a series of protests against the price rise and unemployment in the coming weeks,” Mr. Ramesh added.
The paty will organise Mehangai Chaupal or interactive meetings in mandis, retail markets and other locations in all Assembly constituencies. These will eventually culminate in the Mehangai Par Halla Bol rally on August 28 at the Ramlila Maidan which will be attended by senior Congress leaders, he said.
The Congress communication chief said the people of India are suffering because of the Modi government’s “economic mismanagement” and the Congress will continue to spread awareness about these anti-people policies among the people and increase pressure on the BJP government to change course.
“Inflation is being exacerbated by higher taxes on essential goods like curd, buttermilk, and packaged food grains, while the transfer of public assets to crony capitalists and the introduction of the misguided Agnipath scheme are making a bad employment situation worse,” the former Minister said.
Targeting the Prime Minister over the black magic remrak, Youth Congress chief, B.V. Srinivas, asked “ Was Modi ji doing black magic on February 24, 2019, when you took a dip in the Ganga wearing black clothes?”.
“Home Minister added a communal twist by linking the black colour to a religion. I want to ask if Amit Shah ji is making fun of the devotees of Lord Ayyappa who go to Sabarimala wearing black clothes?” asked Mr Srinivas.
