DEHRADUN: As Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (in New Delhi) on Thursday in connection with the National Herald money laundering case, party workers in Dehradun hit the streets in protest.
Led by party's Uttarakhand chief Karan Mahra, hundreds of Congress members took out a march towards the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Dehradun. However, they were stopped outside the ED office premises and taken into preventive custody only to be released later.
“The Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre is using central agencies like Central Bureau of Investigation and ED for political vendetta. Not only Congress but other opposition party leaders are also on the radar of these central agencies. However, no such probe is conducted against any of the BJP leaders in any part of the country,” said Mahra.
Echoing a similar opinion, Congress leader Suryakant Dhasmana, who was among the party members to be detained, said, “Despite questioning Rahul Gandhi repeatedly, the ED team found nothing. Now, they are questioning Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi at the behest of the central government.”
