Congress Protest: Govt trying to suppress Rahul Gandhi's voice, says Randeep Singh Surjewala

Congress Communications department chief Randeep Singh Surjewala addresses press conference

New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday alleged that former party president Rahul Gandhi was putting the government in the dock by raising issues like China's infiltration, farmers, unemployment and inflation, therefore, efforts were being made to suppress his voice with the help of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Talking to reporters at the party headquarters here, Congress Communications department chief Randeep Singh Surjewala said that the ruling dispensation does not want the Congress to raise the issues of people, so it is trying to suppress the voice of Congress, but its efforts will not be successful.

The Congress leader was referring to the ED calling Gandhi for questioning for the second day under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in connection with the National Herald newspaper.

The party Spokesperson said that the government was conspiring to suppress the voices raising public issues. If raising questions of the public is a crime, then Congress will commit this crime again and again and will continue to become a hindrance in the work of serving the interests of wealthy people of the Modi government, he said, adding that the government conspired the whole day on Monday to suppress the voice of Congress.

The government deputed 40-50 of its Ministers in this work, who continued to broadcast anti-Congress news through their favorite television channels throughout Monday, Surjewala alleged.

Agencies are used against the leaders, who raise their voice against the policies of the government while staying in the opposition, he said.

The spokesperson further said that Congress has paid the salaries of troubled National Herald journalists and paid the pending electricity bills.

If this is a crime, then such crimes are happening all over the country and the government should put everyone in the dock, he added. (UNI)
