HYDERABAD: The Congress launched the 'Haath Se Haath Jodo' Abhiyan in old city of Hyderabad from the historic Charminar monument and accused some of the political parties of spreading hatred on religious lines in a city known for its Ganga Jamuni Tehzeeb.
Led by Congress Hyderabad district committee president Sameer Waliullah, former minister K Pushpa Leela and several senior leaders participated in the campaign, which included distribution of fruits among the patients at Nizamia Tibbi Hospital at Charminar and Maternity Hospital at Petlaburj, a padayatra up to Purana Pul, where Congress leaders interacted with the common people explaining them about the objectives of 'Haath Se Haath Jodo' Abhiyan.
Sameer Waliullah said Hyderabad has been a cosmopolitan city since its formation about 432 years ago and people from across the world belonging to all religions and communities found solace in Hyderabad.
But certain political parties were spreading hatred into the hearts of peace-loving Hyderabadis.
“The Haath Se Haath Jodo Abhiyan would be carried out in all municipal divisions of Hyderabad district and cricket tournaments among other events were also planned as part of the two-month-long campaign,” he said.
The campaign's purpose is to carry the message given by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi through his Bharat Jodo Yatra to each household that every citizen must unite and live peacefully.
Further, they will also expose the failures of BRS and BJP governments during the campaign.
Sameer Waliullah said that the old city of Hyderabad has remained the most neglected in the last nine years.
The Congress will develop the old city if voted if form the government, he added.
