AMRITSAR: The party will emerge much stronger after the exit of opportunists, who are hopping from one party to another, former Punjab Congress president said here on Thursday. Sidhu, former deputy chief minister O P Soni, along with other party leaders and activists, held a protest demonstration against the rising prices of fuel and overall inflation.
Taking a dig at the AAP, Sidhu said the new government was trading MPs and except for talking about Shaheed Bhagat Singh and B R Ambedkar, has done little to show that it is following their ideals. The difference between the rich and poor is growing.
"The keepers of the economy are hell-bent upon destroying it," he alleged. "Haaray hain, marre ni. Yaad rakhio (we lost the election, not die. Remember that)," he said.
Dreams of the people are shattered, as they had voted in the hope of a better future and are now finding it hard even to keep the hearth burning.
"The inflation doesn't affect only 5% of rich Indians," he added.
The Minimum Support Price of crops has increased by 35% in the past six years, whereas petrol prices have jumped 110%, he said. Similarly, prices of the staple food of the common man, including cereals and edible oil, has doubled whereas the income has not increased, he added.
Asked about the expected changes in state Congress leadership, he said it all depends on the party high command. "We are just the soldiers and will keep raising our voice against the wrongdoings and misdeeds of the government," he said.
