NEW DELHI: At a time when both the Houses of Parliament have been witnessing disruption on all days since the beginning of the monsoon session on July 20 over the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sought to blame the principal opposition Congress for having dividing the Northeast for 70 years. On the other hand, he has praised the initiatives taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the unification, development and integration of the northeastern region into the national mainstream.
In a long thread of 11 tweets, Sarma said for 70 years, Northeast suffered from geographical isolation, political instability and imbalanced development. He alleged that they were intentional ploys by the Congress governments to divide and rule. However, in the last nine years, the PM has extensively focused on connecting and uniting the region, the CM said.
