NEW DELHI: The principal opposition Congress party on Tuesday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort terming it as a "crass election speech filled with distortions, lies, exaggerations and vague promises". It also accused the PM of making the event all about himself instead of bringing the country together on Independence Day.
Congress president and leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, on the prime minister’s assertion that he will unfurl the national flag again at Red Fort next year and give a report of his achievements, said Modi will unfurl the national flag next year but at his residence. Modi's remark stems from the "arrogance that he displays", Kharge said.
