Canberra is the hardest-working capital city in Australia, according to a new study.
We, apparently, excel "in having the lowest rate of idle youth" and we also have high percentage of residents doing voluntary work.
The Hardest Working Cities in Australia study evaluated 50 Australian cities across 11 metrics.
Direct work factors included average workweek hours, employment rate, the share of households where no adults work, the share of workers leaving vacation time unused, and the rate of residents ages 16-24 who are neither in school nor working.
Warrnambool in Victoria secured the top spot overall with a score of 81.09, but Canberra emerged as the top-ranking capital city, outpacing other capitals with its low unemployment rates and high rates of community volunteering.
Findings about Canberra residents
The city boasts a low unemployment rate, with only 3.8 per cent of residents not actively employed.
A notable 7 per cent of residents hold multiple jobs, contributing to ranking.
Outside of work, 18.1 per cent of the city's residents do voluntary work, the fifth-highest rate in the country.
Another reason Canberra residents ranked high is that they had the highest percentage of people doing unpaid domestic work in the country, at 78.4 per cent.
The study was conducted by Snow Season Central.
