The 49ers in 2024 will see some changes to their coaching staff, despite head coach Kyle Shanahan’s anticipation of keeping his assistants after 2023.
A handful of coaches were hired for different jobs elsewhere, while another was let go.
This is what happens to teams with as much success as San Francisco has had. Other clubs want to try and siphon off some of the coaching talent and we’ve seen this virtually every offseason from Shanahan’s staff.
Here are the confirmed departures for this offseason according to Shanahan’s conference call with reporters on Wednesday:
Defensive coordinator Steve Wilks
Wilks and the 49ers mutually parted ways after one season.
Offensive passing game specialist Klint Kubiak
Kubiak left the 49ers for a promotion to offensive coordinator with the New Orleans Saints.
Assistant offensive line coach James Cregg
After two years as an assistant OL coach in San Francisco, Cregg is taking over the OL coach job with the Las Vegas Raiders under new head coach Antonio Pierce.
Assistant defensive line coach Darryl Tapp
Tapp was with the 49ers for three years as an assistant DL coach, but he’ll follow former assistant general manager Adam Peters to Washington where he’ll be the Commanders’ defensive line coach.
Assistant head coach Anthony Lynn
Lynn coached running backs and worked as an assistant head coach under Shanahan. He’s also going to Washington where he’ll be the run game coordinator.
