Concern that new Mapperley flats will cause congestion on narrow road

Residents of a quiet street in Mapperley are concerned that a planning application for new flats to be built on their residential road will cause issues with parking and congestion. Plans for seven flats on Haywood Road, Mapperley, that were submitted to the Gedling Borough Council, will be determined by April 6.

The proposed plan includes an additional two car parking spaces to be created - but some residents feel this isn't enough. Mike McBrown, 65, retired, of Haywood Road, explained how hard it is to park on the road already.

He said: "It's good they're adding more spaces but if it's seven flats, why is it not seven parking spaces? It won't help our current issue with parking that we have at the moment. Seven flats is fine and it is a lovely area to live in, I just hope it won't have any negative effects on the use of the road. We all get along here and it'll be nice to have some more people here."

Laura Keiller, 40, who works for the fire service, who lives on Haywood Road, says the parking will be the biggest issue.

She said: “There are issues already with parking so that’ll make it worse, especially near the community centre and the park. It will cause a bit of congestion, other than that I’m sure there won’t be any problems. It’s a very nice street, it’s a good quiet resident street.”

Serena Patel, 45, a care assistant, of Haywood Road, says she is happy it isn't anymore than seven flats. She said: "Seven is a good number, any more would impact the road too much I think. It is a lovely area and we have good facilities around us, everywhere is getting built on so I knew it was bound to happen. If anything it will affect parking, two additional spaces is good but not enough."
