Conan’s bits, O’Connell’s fangs and Jafar Panahi unimpressed: Oscars 2026 viral moments

Jafar Panahi Unimpressed

Jafar Panahi, the Iranian political dissident and director of the excellent film It Was Just an Accident – a best international feature nominee from France, as it was made without the permission of the Iranian government – looked, well, not impressed by Shark Tank judge and Marty Supreme castmember Kevin O’Leary on the red carpet. If there’s one moment that transcended the Oscars this year, it’s this dead stare.

Conan’s stays on sharp script

For his second outing as Oscars host, Conan O’Brien generally kept it light, nimble and snappy. But the seasoned comedian still managed some good-natured jabs at industry titans, such as the Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.

Conan goes off-script

Of course, O’Brien is almost more enjoyable when he goes off-script … as when Oscar producers accidentally cut off the winners for best live-action short (a rare tie!).

Vampire teeth

Sinners star Jack O’Connell took theme dressing to a whole other level with his bloody vampire fangs, which unlike in the film … did not repulse people online.

Rose Byrne’s supportive husband

Unlike at the Golden Globes, when he was at a reptile expo in New Jersey searching for a bearded dragon, best actress nominee Rose Byrne’s husband Bobby Cannavale was on hand for the Oscars, much to the delight of fans.

Timotheé’s Y2K suit

Last year it was butter, this year it’s giving Backstreet Boys … once again, three-time nominee Timothee Chalamet is starting conversations with his all-white look (plus sunglasses).

Not the Oscars, but let’s remember …

Leonardo DiCaprio going off about something (K-pop?) at the Golden Globes earlier this year. Conan was right: Leo does make a great meme.
