Company suing Rangers for £9.5m 'goes into administration' day after details of legal bid emerge

A company which is suing Rangers for £9.5million has gone into administration just a day after details of their legal bid emerged, according to reports.

Elite Sports Group Ltd claim the Ibrox club breached a contract which allowed the firm to provide the Glasgow team with kits. As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, Elite are the exclusive brand partner to Danish sportswear firm Hummel and it has instructed lawyers to go to the Court of Session in Edinburgh.

They won a bid to force Rangers to disclose sales data to them on Wednesday - however, according to Keiran Maguire of the respected Price of Football podcast, the company has been placed into administration.

He said: "Elite Sports Group, the Hummel distributor for Southampton, Millwall, Coventry and other clubs, goes into administration. Fans who have placed orders online using debit cards may lose out."

Clubs linked to Elite confirmed their club shops were closing down on Wednesday. Among them was Southampton, who said: "The club was recently made aware of significant business and fulfilment challenges being experienced by our external third-party retail partner, Elite Sports Group, who manage the online and physical retail operation of a number of clubs, including ours.

"We have been working with Elite Sports Group to fully understand what those challenges are and how we might minimise any disruption for our fans. However, following further developments today, we have taken the difficult decision to end our partnership with them.

"This decision allows us to proceed with our contingency plan, but will unfortunately result in the unavoidable closure of our online and physical stores for a short period of time."

It is unclear how this may impact on the Rangers case. Elite have been asked for comment by the Scottish Daily Express.
